Name, Location, Occupation
Lisa Hackwith
Minneapolis, MN
Owner/Designer at Hackwith Design House
Please describe your workspace:
Right now my workspace is cozy, full of light and full to the brim of clothing. I try to keep it as clean as possible because I can't work in clutter. I have to sweep the floor multiple times during the day because of all the thread and pieces of scrap fabric that end up on the ground.
What are you working on right now?
Right now I'm working on all of my Spring line that launched on January 27th. Because I release new items every week, I am constantly coming up with new designs. I also do collaborations with boutiques so I am also constantly designing and working with the owners to create new pieces.
What has been your most rewarding project to date?
I don't know if I can pick just one rewarding project - I love releasing new things every week and it is always super rewarding when they all sell out.
Which designers and artists inspire you?
I love Chloe, APiece Apart, Elizabeth and James, Ace & Jig, Black Crane, the list goes on and on.
Has there been a defining moment or turning point when you realized what you wanted to do for a living?
I am self taught and learned how to sew after graduating from college and my sewing hobby just turned into a business over time. I don't remember an exact moment when I realized that I loved designing and sewing but I do remember feeling like this what I was meant to do. My favorite days are when I just get to design and sew up the first prototype -it is so invigorating and I get so excited every time I see a new design finished!
What are you reading at the moment?
Right now I'm reading "Stitches" by Ann Lamott and listening to "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman while I work.
What are your simplest daily pleasures?
Probably drinking coffee in the morning during the time right after I get up until I start working - its my quite time that I need to start off the day.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I'm hoping that Hackwith Design House keeps being built up, maybe my husband and I will have a kid or two, and just happy.
